Diminish

His goodbye should’ve diminished me
But it didn’t
I stared at his last words in disbelief
Pondering about the human capacity to hurt
I remind myself that he is made of flesh and bones like me
That he should feel shame and guilt like me
No matter how different his heart might be
I have to hold onto that belief
In order to not diminish me
And there I vow
I would never do what he’d done unto me
Go discover he says
I think I did
